HOEC’s mission is to be a leader in delivering cost-efficient, reliable energy with value added service. And we want to do that keeping everyone safe along the way.

As cold temperatures are blowing in, YOU can help minimize the impact on YOUR electricity bill! Energy usage during winter weather affects the price we pay from our power providers for the next fiscal year. YOU can play a part by conserving energy the next few days by following the tips below.

  • Minimize the use of major appliances at the same time. Alternate use of your washing machine, dryer and dishwasher to help in this way.
  • Turn off lights and unplug small appliances when not in use. Many items still use electricity when not on but plugged in, so if you can unplug items such as chargers for cell phones, laptops and even other electronic equipment. Items in the bathroom such as curling irons and hair dryers should also be unplugged.
  • Close curtains and blinds to keep the warm air in and the cold air out. If needed, cover your doors and windows with blankets to keep the cold air from seeping in.
  • Dress in layers especially if you need to be outdoors. Waterproof boots and jackets are the best and don’t forget gloves and hats. Heat escapes anywhere you are not covered up. So, make sure to bundle up!
  • If it is safe to do so, turning down your thermostat 2-3° will save energy.
