Turning down your thermostat a degree or two could help you save on your electric bill by conserving energy. When the difference between outside and inside temperature is significant, like today through the weekend, your heating system runs more to maintain the warmth. That's why setting your thermostat at 68° during the winter is generally a good rule of thumb. This reduces the amount of run time for your furnace to keep the inside warmed to the thermostat setting. Additional tips include making sure windows and doors are sealed with weather stripping and caulk, and filling in any "holes" for pipes or cables with foam insulation. Keeping curtains drawn during the night and placing blankets over the doors will help keep additional drafts from entering your home.
