October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and HOEC is proud to join this international initiative to keep our people, data and systems safer online, including critical infrastructure.
You can help by taking these four essential steps:
- Update software - Install updates promptly on all devices. Updates patch vulnerabilities that attackers can exploit. Turn on automatic updates if needed.
- Use strong passwords - Create passwords that are at least 16 characters (with mixed case letters, numbers, and symbols) and unique for every account. Use a password manager to generate, fill, and remember them for you.
- Turn on Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) - MFA adds an extra layer of security to your accounts. Use it when it is available for your accounts, apps and systems.
- Recognize phishing - Stay alert for suspicious messages. Always verify the sender. Avoid unexpected links or attachments. If you spot a scam, use the platform's "Report Phishing" tool.
