Posting signs or flyers on utility poles is dangerous - it risks exposing you to the thousands of volts surging across the lines overhead, and it could cause injury, electrocution, or death of utility workers who need to climb that pole later to restore power. Nails and staples can tear the lineworker's protective clothing and gloves - their first line of defense against electricity - and can also catch or snag their climbing boots, potentially causing a fall.
Linemen also sometimes find basketball hoops, deer stands, satellite dishes, lights and birdhouses attached to poles. All of these are unauthorized attachments in violation of the National Electrical Safety Code.
Every line worker is someone’s child, spouse, parent or friend. Please help keep them safe and DO NOT post on power poles. Report any unauthorized items you may see on power poles to the electric cooperative or utility company.
